Nancy Hernandez, DNP, BSN, RN, is a Sepsis Program Coordinator at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Her doctoral degree and 35 years of professional experience, including a specialty in Critical Care and Clinical Education, positioned Nancy to create a sepsis program from the ground up encompassing acute inpatient sepsis care, Emergency sepsis care, post-acute partnerships for sepsis care, and community sepsis education. Most recently, Nancy was awarded a second BestCare Grant at Saint Francis to research the effectiveness of RN Severe Sepsis Screening when triggered by the EMR. Creating, studying, and adapting electronic sepsis care tools for nurses and providers is Nancy’s passion and a focus of her doctoral study. Nancy provides innovative solutions to systems issues for success in meeting the SEP-1 core measure, and to aid in prevention of sepsis, recognition of sepsis, and excellent care for septic patients.
